A barber shop is a bastion of manliness and the ways of the gentleman. There is a great sense of community in the barber shop and its’ culture. It is something I have encouraged guys to go to and experience. So I have decided to go to barber school and learn the ancient craft of barbering.
Over the next year I will be working my day job and attending barber school to learn the trade and get my barber’s license. One day I will be able to open my own shop and help guys feel like they have a social club so to speak about life and experience a great classic cut and a hot towel shave or a shoe shine.
Let me share how I came to this choice. I have always loved vintage things and the ascetics of the 40′s and 50′s. About 3 years ago I really discovered traditional wet shaving. I got my first safety razor. It was the Edwin Jagger DE89bl. I also got a puck of Taylor of Old Bond Street Sandalwood soap. I remember the great smell of the soap and how much more comfortable the safety razor was, even on the first shave with it. I was hooked right then.
I gathered a pretty good amount of shaving products, I started to read men’s interest blogs, I dressed better, and I started to discover my true self. I looked around me and saw so many guys in a state of apathy. Too many younger men were becoming what the media portrays us as. Too many were just not caring and not living up to their potential.
I thought about the way of life back in the day when men were men and they wore a suit and hat all the time. They cared about their appearance and how they carried themselves because they understood that it was a sign of respect for themselves and those around them.
I wanted to bring that more into my own life. I wanted to be an example to others and help men realize their full potential to be better husbands and fathers brothers and friends.
I started this blog because of those thoughts and reasons. I have a message to share with the world. There are so many messages that we face everyday. Most are loud and abrasive coming from the right or left of an issue. What I hope to share is a message that is universally applicable and of value no matter your political, social, religious, or philosophical beliefs.
As I am trained at barber school not only will I be able to provide a needed service, but I hope to spread the message of real men and what it means to have true honor in your life. Perhaps a few will have an experience like mine and start down their pathway to a better life.
While on the journey of barber school I will share the experience with all you readers out there. Stay tuned in here at The Unforgettable Man for updates. Also, follow me on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for updates and more content. If you haven’t already, sign up for the newsletter to stay current with what’s going on.
I want to thank you all for reading and coming back and help the message grow! We are doing a great work by bettering ourselves as men and hopefully sharing this with others. Thank you for letting me share a part of my life with you.
